From first launch to the export of your JustOnWeb case file.

Installation & initial setup

Download

Go to /download and download the version for your system (macOS .dmg or Windows .exe).

Installation

  • macOS : macOS: open the .dmg, drag the app to Applications. If Gatekeeper blocks: System Settings → Privacy → "Open Anyway".
  • Windows : Windows: run the .exe. If SmartScreen warns: "More info" → "Run anyway".

Licence key

On first launch, a pop-up asks for your licence key (format JOWD-XXXXXXXXXX). Copy and paste the key received by email after purchase and click OK.

The key is remembered: you only need to enter it once per computer.

Output folder

The destination folder is chosen after the case file analysis (step 1): JOWD then asks you to choose it, and then asks what you want to export (step 2). Choose a folder you have write access to — a folder in your personal space rather than a system location. This is where your case file tree structure will be rebuilt, and where the index will be placed. On Windows, choose a short destination path, for example C:\JOWD, especially for cases with a deep folder structure. If the chosen destination would produce paths that are too long, JOWD refuses it, explains why and reopens the folder picker so you can choose another.

Step 1 – Case file analysis

After starting, a Chromium browser automatically opens on JustOnWeb. Sign in with itsme or your eID card as usual. If your JustOnWeb session expires during the export, JOWD shows you what to do: sign in again in the window already open, without clicking in the tree — JOWD repositions itself — then resume the export from the button provided.

Once signed in, open your court case file yourself in the browser. The application then takes over and will:

  1. analyses the case file and identifies the available documents,
  2. then asks you for the destination folder.

How long the analysis takes depends on the size of the case file. Do not close the browser window.

Step 2 – Choosing what to export

Once the destination is chosen, JOWD asks you “What would you like to export?”:

  • •“Full export”: JOWD exports the authorised documents of the whole case file;
  • •“Selective export”: you tick the folders or documents to export. Nothing is ticked to begin with; “Select all” and “Clear selection” speed up the selection, and a counter shows how many documents are selected.
  • •Each document shows its status in the destination folder, for example “Already exported” or “To download”.
  • •“Cancel” starts no export. The choice is not remembered: it is offered at every export.

If the list of documents in the case file could not be read in full, a reliable selection is not possible: JOWD tells you so, and you can go back to the full export.

Step 3 – Downloading documents

JOWD then downloads the chosen documents. Each document is saved in:

<dossier choisi>/<sous-dossiers de l'arborescence>/<préfixe>_<pièce> - ~<id>.pdf

Resuming or updating an export

After a finished export, re-run the export and choose the same destination folder: documents already saved are recognised there and not downloaded again; JOWD fetches only what is still missing. After an interruption, re-run the same way to the same folder: documents already saved are recognised and skipped.

Where are the files?

In the folder you chose, faithfully reproducing the tree structure of your court case file (folder → sub-folders → documents). — and at the root, the file “00 - Dossier JOWD.html” which lets you navigate all of it without going through your file explorer. Example:

Step 4 – Your case file index

JOWD places a file named “00 - Dossier JOWD.html” at the root of the exported folder. The 00 prefix makes it easy to spot.

Open it with a double-click: it displays locally in your browser. It is the entry point to your exported case file. Once the case file has been exported, consulting it no longer requires a connection to JustOnWeb.

  • •the case file identification — name, consultation, export date;
  • •a check on the export — what was found, and the points that warrant your verification;
  • •the full tree structure, collapsible folder by folder;
  • •every document as a clickable link — one click opens the corresponding PDF on your disk;
  • •after a selective export, the index says so at the top and marks the documents you did not choose as “not selected”.

View and print

The index can be printed, and exported to PDF from your browser (File → Print → Save as PDF).

Where to keep and move your case files

You can save your case files on your computer, a USB stick or an external drive. JOWD also works with folders synchronised by OneDrive or Dropbox, and with profile folders synchronised with your firm's server, as long as they are available locally on your computer. The index links are relative: if you move the exported folder, always move the entire folder that contains “00 - Dossier JOWD”, without renaming or reorganising the folders inside it; otherwise the corresponding links will no longer find the documents. On Windows, a very deeply nested location may prevent the browser from opening some documents from the index.

JOWD and its index are available in French, Dutch, English and German: JOWD follows your system language.

🌳 A faithful copy of your case file

Documents are not dumped in bulk: the tool rebuilds the same tree structure as on JustOnWeb (folder → sub-folders → documents). You get your court case file reproduced identically, locally.

🎛️ Tracking & control of the export

During the export, a small floating panel stays visible: it shows the current document and progress, and lets you stop the export. To continue, run it again to the same destination folder: documents already saved are recognised and not downloaded again.

Frequently asked questions

What is the “00 - Dossier JOWD.html” file for?
It is the index of your exported case file, and its entry point. It replays the JustOnWeb tree structure, indicates what was found, and lets you open each document with one click. Open it in your browser: it works locally. It is also produced when an export was interrupted — it then reflects the actual state of the folder at that moment.
Can I export only part of the case file?
Yes. After the analysis and the choice of destination, choose “Selective export” and tick the folders or documents you need. Documents already in the destination are not downloaded again. The analysis always covers the whole case file: that is what makes it possible to check the result.
Can I use the app on several computers?
Yes, with JOWD Individual: the plan covers one lawyer and lets you activate JOWD on up to four computers, for example your office computer, a laptop and your home computer. Only one export can be in progress at a time, across all computers. An activation stays tied to the computer on which it was made: if all four slots are in use and you need to replace one, contact support, who will review your request. For all the lawyers of a firm, the firm offer is an annual collective offer, priced per tier according to the number of lawyers in the firm, on request (see the Pricing page).
Does the app work without internet?
No. Both the licence check and JustOnWeb downloading require an active internet connection. The application verifies the licence online on a regular basis.
Are my documents sent to your servers?
No. They are exported directly to your computer. Our servers never see the content of your case files.
If new documents are added to the case later, do I have to re-download everything?
No. Re-run the export and choose the same destination folder: documents already saved are recognised and not downloaded again.
Can I stop the export and resume it later?
Yes. The floating control panel lets you stop the export. To resume it, run it again and choose the same destination folder: documents already exported are detected and skipped.
How do I know the export is complete?
At the end of every export, JOWD compares the saved files with the case file index and shows a summary. If a discrepancy is detected — missing document, duplicate, file that is not in the expected folder — the export is not presented as complete and the discrepancy is named. The same finding appears in the index placed at the root of the exported folder. And if JOWD could not establish the index of the case file, it tells you so rather than letting you assume the export was verified.
I had to interrupt an export: do I have to start over?
No. Re-run JOWD and choose the same destination folder: documents already saved are recognised there and not downloaded again, and JOWD retrieves what is still missing. If you choose another destination, the export starts from scratch in that new folder. If the exported folder has been moved or comes from an older version of JOWD, the recognition of the documents already there may be partial.
I launched JOWD a second time during an export
If JOWD is already exporting a case file, do not close the Chrome window it is using. If a second launch shows a message asking you to close your Chrome windows, do not follow that instruction until the export in progress has finished. Simply wait for the export to end before re-running JOWD.
Why is there a "~number" at the end of file names?
It is the document's unique identifier on JustOnWeb. It guarantees that no file overwrites another, even with identical names — without (2) or (3) suffixes. The index, however, lets you find each document under its JustOnWeb title and open it directly, without having to scan file names in your explorer.
What happens if the court registry renames a document that has already been exported?
JOWD recognises each document by its technical identifier, regardless of its title. If the registry only changes the title and you run JOWD again to the same destination folder, the document already present is not downloaded a second time. The file keeps the name of its first export, while the index shows the current title. If the document is moved to another folder, JOWD exports it to its new location and the index flags the situation.
