macOS installation

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  2. ⚠️ Updating? Delete the old version from Applications first, before dragging in the new one
  3. Drag the application to your Applications folder
  4. Double-click to launch — if Gatekeeper blocks:
  5. → System Settings → Privacy & Security → "Open Anyway"
  6. Paste your licence key into the pop-up on the first launch

Windows installation

⚠️ Windows – SmartScreen may appear

On first launch, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because the application is not yet digitally signed. This is expected and safe.

  1. Click « More info »
  2. Then click « Run anyway »
  1. Launch the downloaded .exe file
  2. If SmartScreen appears: More info → Run anyway
  3. Follow the installation wizard
  4. Launch the application from the Start menu or desktop
  5. Paste your licence key into the pop-up on the first launch

Requirements

  • ✓ Internet connection (licence check at startup)
  • ✓ Write access to the destination folder

Diagnostic — app not found, blocked or DMG not verified

Check that your DMG is properly notarized

xcrun stapler validate ~/Downloads/JOWD.dmg

✅ If the output shows "The file ... is a valid stapled notarized file": the DMG is correct.

❌ If it shows "does not have a ticket stapled": you downloaded the wrong file. Clear your browser cache and download again.

Run this command in Terminal to list all copies of the app on your Mac:

mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'be.justonweb.downloader'"

If multiple paths appear, an old version is still present — remove it from the Applications folder.
